College of Ministry PCM was established in 1992 to train Filipino leaders. Our main focus has always been to prepare pastors who would be able to assist us in the church planting ministry. Our secondary goal is more general – to prepare our graduates to be leaders in the Kingdom of God. PCM usually serves 60-65 students each year. These students come mostly from nearby provinces, but we have served Filipino students from all over the Philippines and foreign students from Korea, U.S.A., and Myanmar. Many of our graduates are serving the Lord in full-time ministry and, as far as I know, all of our graduates are serving the Lord as leaders in local churches. I have been serving as PCM President since 2006. This experience has stretched and challenged me in good ways. The college is doing very well, but it's hard for me to take much credit for it - our administration, faculty, and staff are all excellent servants of the Lord and dedicated to serving him at PCM. Everyone working at PCM understands that it is not just a job, it is a ministry. Even our Assistant Groundskeeper sees his work as his service to the Lord. Everything is always better when people are doing their work for the Lord, not just because it's a job. I teach a variety of classes in areas of Bible, Ministry, Leadership, and Philosophy. I usually teach Old Testament Survey, Critical Thinking, Biblical Backgrounds, Hermeneutics, Apologetics, Leadership Development, Church Planting/Church Growth, Keyboarding, Computers, etc. I’ve been a professor at PCM since its inception in 1992 and have grown tremendously as a teacher and a person during that time. I have made a good transition during those years, from seeing myself as a teacher to seeing myself as a disciple-maker. This is an important distinction for me because if I’m a teacher, all I have to do is stand up for an hour a day, pass on some information, give some grades, and my “job” is done. But if I am a disciple-maker, teaching is only part of what I should be doing. Much of my work now, therefore, involves sitting around campus looking for opportunities to talk to students. Often during these conversations, students ask questions and discuss things that don’t come up in class. It’s great to teach and I love it, but it’s extremely fulfilling to make disciples and merely teaching no longer appeals to me. Check out our PCM website for more information about the college. Church
Planting The church planting ministry here in Baguio has planted or assisted in planting more than a dozen churches since 1989. Our long-term goal since 1991 has been to establish a cluster of churches who would be able to continue the work of planting new churches after the departure of the missionaries. This goal is already met as we continue to assist church planting projects. The last several church planting projects have been the "daughter" churches of the already-established churches. In 2006, this group of churches began an annual convention for the purpose of emphasizing unity and enjoying the fellowship that we have in Christ. Attendance is usually around 300-350 at the one-day annual convention. It’s one of my favorite days each year because it’s exciting to see so many people who are the result of many years of prayer and work. My work as a church planter has made a major transition since about 2003. I have gradually moved from an active role as a church planter, to a mentor/coach, to a support source. This transition has been possible as the Filipino pastors have stepped up into those positions. In other words, the local pastors are now the church planters, mentors, and coaches of the new church planting projects. I am no longer needed in those positions. I have become more of a resource person, offering occasional advice, encouragement, and financial help to the churches, but even these areas are needed less and less. I expect that by about 2012, my role in the church planting ministry in the Baguio area will be finished and the work will be carried on by the churches the Lord has established and the leaders he has trained through us.

Academy of Baguio CAB is a school (Grades 1-8) for the children of missionaries and the children of foreign seminary students studying in Baguio and all three of our children are students there. Lenae has been teaching and leading at CAB since 1993. I have served occasionally as a substitute teacher and a Board member. CAB serves an important function in the missionary community in Baguio. Missionary kids are at great risk in life. Many, many missionary kids do not continue to serve the Lord in their adult lives and many walk away from the Lord completely. CAB exists not only to give these children a good education, but to disciple them in their walk with the Lord so that they will stand firm throughout their lifetimes. |
